Warangal is a city and district in the newly formed state of Telangana, and has always been one of the most important administrative divisions of the state. It is currently the second biggest city in the state of Telangana, after Hyderabad.
The main economic activity in the district is agriculture. The main crops grown here include paddy, cotton, wheat and mangoes. The Godavari irrigations system has provided a fillip to the farmers in the area, and the city has got asias second biggest grain market. The city is also slowly becoming a prominent IT hub. There have been a spate of announcements in recent times of SEZ's being established, and various IT parks and IT companies coming up in the area.
There are many tourist attractions here, most famously the exquisite Bhadrakali Temple and Thousand Pillar Temple. Other attractions include the Sammakka Sarakka Jatara and the famous Warangal Fort complex.
