Palakkad Keralan city lying in the Palghat Gap which creates a slight depression in the Western Ghats and forms a vital connection between the the two sides of the mountain range.
Palakkad is slowly on the rise, recently achieving the status of being the first district in India to be fully electrified. The central government has also commissioned an Indian Institute of Technology to be constructed in the next five years in the city. Some popular attractions include the Palakkad Fort, Malampuzha Dam, Kalpathi, the close by Nelliyampathy Hills, and the many colourful festivals and celebrations held throughout the year.
Silent Valley National Park and Parambikulam National Park, both of which are located in the district, are two of the most pristine and untouched natural parks in India, and are very well known for their biodiversity. Palakkad is well connected by road and rail, and with fairly good infrastructure and high literacy and wealth, it is a city on the rise.
