Khorda is a coastal district in the eastern state of Odisha. It was formerly a part of the Puri district. The district also contains the state capital of Bhubaneshwar and is hence an important administrative as well as economic centre. The district has excellent logistical connections that support its many industries which includes its famous cottage industries for handicrafts, brass, railway coaches and cables. There is also a Coca Cola bottling plant and many small and medium sized metal industries in the area.
There are many attractions in the district. The main ones are the city of Bhubaneshwar, the capital of the state and the ancient capital of the kingdom of Kalinga. The city has a large number of famous temples and museums. The beautiful Chilka lake - which is India’s biggest lake is also located in the district. Other important attractions include : the Barunei temple, Golabai, Lingaraj temple, Nandankanan zoo, and the Maa Ugra Tara Temple.
