The second largest city in Rajasthan, Jodhpur is an extremely popular tourist destination with forts, palaces, and a large shopping district. The centerpiece of the city and its tourism industry is the magnificent and imposing Mehrangarh Fort which is an architectural masterpiece located on top of a hillock in the middle of the city.
Jodhpur is a sight for the eyes from the fort premises as the roofs of the houses are famously painted blue - a beautiful scene to behold as the sun shines off them.
Jodhpur has a large army contingent and this contributes to the economy considerably. Surprisingly, the major industry in the city is not tourism but handicrafts, with exports from the industry going all over the world. A similar cottage industry exists for glass bangles, spices, cutlery and certain textiles.
